Town and country
Wildflowers, Borromini, a secret third thing
When I was in Japan in the spring of 2019, I came across a saying on a wooden slat: ‘May even parallel lines meet in the end.’ It comes to mind every once in a while, and it came to mind today as I’m coming up on one year of working that farm event, in what ended up being a 14-hour physically grueling day consisting of consternation and not a whole lot else untillll reflecting on it now, 365 days later, and the classic rose-colored glasses thing happens and you’re like ho hey I actually learned a lot in pushing myself to the far edge even if I wish to never go there again and wasitreallythatbad! (Ya, lol) (Good copy on their site rn though). This time this year I was also amidst the wildflowers, albeit in a more celebratory, family wedding kind of way, less of a holy-shiz-i-hope-my-tires-aren’t-flat-because-i-parked-behind-a-barn-in-knee-deep-grass-and-its-midnight-and-my-body-is-broken kind of way.
Also thinking about: Los Angeles Apparel opening a store in SoHo (if you take away anything from this letter today, read Strip Tees), how the fashion in And Just Like That…was overridden by the bad storylines, figuring out my Halloween costume, whether or not to take a 90 minute SoulCycle class, and hearing HAIM sing walk beside me / not behind me live!!!!
Ok so I went to Borromini opening week…

It felt symbolic, ending my very restaurant-heavy summer at the most talked about place in town on the last unofficial official week of summer. And if I say the orange warm glow reminded me of the Cheesecake Factory the second I walked through the doors??? Don’t worry there was no mediocrity found in the food portion of the evening. Actually night, because our reservation was at 9 PM, much to my chagrin but it’s so fine because what wouldn’t I do to experience a new Starr spot in its first week. Well not not eat 100 layer lasagna at 10:30 PM on a Friday. If any there were a time to do so, though…
Listen even the restaurant wiz himself can’t save a few service hiccups from happening 4 days after a restaurant opens. I thought the food was great and the vibes will only continue to improve. The martinis are the size of your thumb so maybe don’t go with a hankering. Otherwise set aside $28 for the crispy lasagna and save room for dessert obviously.
In other news…
Looking forward to getting an official opening date for Dancerobot.
My favorite read of the week was the exposé on Wondermind (Selena Gomez’s mom’s mental health, erm, start-up).
Listening to I quit with fresh ears, after one does after a really good concert!!!
Saw on Twitter someone say that Margaret Qualley and Andie MacDowell should play the leads in a live-action Tangled and now I can’t unsee it.
THANK YOU FOR READING. Thinking about fall bakes so if you have a favorite recipe you know what to dooooooo.
